Are you in a winter wardrobe rut?
Winter dressing can quite frankly be a bit of a pain! I (Sam) am a summer girl myself, and for me winter can be a bit of a drag though when it gets really cold I do love wearing one of my favourite stylish winter coats!
Anyone else feel the same?
I really don’t like bulky layers and I definitely don’t like feeling chunky and clunky in lots of garments so staying warm and stylish can often be a challenge.
Therefore, I believe not only my styling skills validates me to speak on this subject but also my personal experience of having to pull myself out of a winter wardrobe rut and get imaginative with dressing when it is chilly!
So we have put together 5 style updates and our top tips of how to stay warm in style without falling into a style rut!
5 Warm Style Updates For This Winter
- Cape It!
Layer with a fringe or woollen cape for a chic finish. Capes are fabulous as they don’t create bulk around your arms yet are extremely warm as they cover your chest and back.
- Lace It!
Replace your plain long sleeve tee for a lace version with a cami underneath, or opt for a lace cami under your winter tops instead of basic black. No one else may see the lace under garment but you will feel elegant and feminine and that is what really matters.
- Leather It!
Faux or real, the choice is yours, but either way leather will bring a hard edge (and warm) glamour to casual wear; and is the perfect cover up for after dark dressing.
- Colour It!
A winter coat is always a wardrobe essential but don’t just make it a practical item, turn your coat into a fashion statement. Don’t be afraid of colour! It can make your entire outfit pop. Also always remember a coat is the final layer to your outfit and the item closest to your complexion, therefore, a black or “safe” colour isn’t always the most flattering.
- Print It!
Florals and paisley are so on trend this season, and they make the perfect style partner for earthy and neutral tones. Modernise and warm up a knit top or jacket with a print scarf, or wear your print in an entire garment to give your winter wardrobe a bit of interest, and move away from the monotomy of stripes.
5 Tips To Stay Warm In Style
- Try a beanie they are an easier to wear option than a hat.
- Opt for a thicker denier in panti-hose rather than tights for added warmth. They will feel less chunky on your legs and they don’t ball or fade as easily.
- Wear items that consist of pure wool, they are heaps warmer!
- Invest in a pair of leather or suede (faux or real) gloves. They are uber stylish and something you will use every winter.
- Try a new way to wear your scarf. I love a pashmina in winter worn as a shawl over a coat, and then when indoors drapped over whatever I am wearing (Sam).
Vibrantly and warmly yours,
